Pastoral Care

MidHudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center and, specifically, the Pastoral Care staff, is committed to minister as instruments of the Lord’s peace in life: where there is injury, hatred, doubt, despair, and darkness, to bring pardon, faith, hope, and light.

“Patients have a fundamental right to considerate care that safeguards their personal dignity and respects their cultural, psychosocial, and spiritual values” (JCAHO – Joint Committee on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, 1998). At MidHudson Regional Hospital, these fundamental patient rights are addressed in a team approach dedicated to preserving and enhancing the integrity, uniqueness, and dignity of each individual

Religious beliefs and practices are interwoven with cultural contexts. We help each individual remember the healing, sustaining, guiding, and reconciling power of his or her own religious faith and spirituality.

We provide spiritual and emotional support through:

  • Spiritual care for patients, their families and staff
  • Masses and interfaith services in the Chapel, which are transmitted on our hospital TV, on channel 60
  • Jewish and Muslim prayer rooms
  • Anointing, last rites and baptism in danger of death, on request
  • Visits to all patients on a daily basis
  • Communion to the sick
  • Confessions for patients and employees by appointment
  • Contacting patients’ clergy or congregation on request
  • Compassionate Care (CC) program for patients who are lonely
    or dying without family members
  • Quarterly interfaith services in memory of those who have died at MidHudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center
  • Chaplains available 24/7. For on-call emergencies from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., please dial the Operator to page the on-call chaplain.
